''Jesus and the Eyewitnesses: The Gospels as Eyewitness Testimony'' is a book written by biblical scholar and theologian Richard Bauckham and published in 2006 (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans). Based on historical arguments, Richard Bauckham argues, against the current consensus, that the synoptic Gospels are based "quite closely" on the testimony of eyewitnesses, while the Gospel of John is written by an eyewitness. The final chapter offers a theological argument against the dichotomy between the Christ of faith and the historical Jesus.〔http://richardbauckham.co.uk/uploads/Books/Answers%20website.pdf〕 ''Jesus and the Eyewitnesses'' has been described by many scholars as a paradigm shift in Gospels study〔http://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/reviews/jesus-and-the-eyewitnesses/〕 and has generated critical reactions.〔''Journal for the Study of the Historical Jesus'', 6, 2, 2008, ((special issue ))〕 It was awarded the "2007 Christianity Today book in biblical studies" and in 2009 the Michael Ramsey Prize for theological writing ("placed something of a bomb under a good deal of New Testament scholarship").〔http://www.christianitytoday.com/ct/2007/juneweb-only/123-42.0.html〕〔http://www.michaelramseyprize.org.uk/winner_2009.php〕 ==References==
